Ralph Sias
During his time at AHS/Baxter he managed construction and validation of medical device manufacturing lines worldwide. In his role as VP R&D he managed the developed of products for the Nursing Products Division (NPD), Medical / Surgical Division, Respiratory Therapy Group (Airlife), and the Controlled Environments / Alternate Sites Strategic Business Unit. Mr. Sias also performed analysis of strategic acquisitions of respiratory therapy and Foley catheter companies for Baxter. As president of Tactyl Technologies he prepared and executed a plan for divestiture of the company as per instructions from the Board of Directors. In preparation for the divestiture Mr. Sias modified manufacturing and overhead (to lower cost) and expanded distribution resulting in a significant increase in EBIT and increasing the value of the company. The company was sold to SafeSkin at a premium for the Tactyl shareholders.
Mr. Sias founded a new company, Advanced Barrier Technologies (ABT), to establish a maquiladora (Mexican) manufacturing plant to process cleanroom gloves for major glove manufacturers. While maintaining the processing business, Mr. Sias developed a proprietary technology for grafting hydrogel to the inside of powder-free surgeon’s gloves. Based upon the proprietary technology Mr. Sias sold the company to a division of TotalFinaElf (a major international oil company) for a significant premium. Mr. Sias also founded Intecon Systems, a company based on his patented technology that achieves high level disinfection using a hydrogen peroxide aerosol and ionized gas. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, he licensed the technology to the Titan Corporation (now L-3 Communications) for use in military applications. Mr. Sias worked with L-3 to adapt his disinfection technology for BioChem decontamination under secret clearance by DOD.
Most recently Mr Sias has consulted for Applied Medical Resources while installing an e-beam sterilization system & radiation safety program. He has also provided guidance regarding in-house ethylene oxide sterilization and development of high voltage plasma products for minimally invasive surgery and wound management.
Mr. Sias has a BS in Physics and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
